BRIAN KING
Artist

I currenty earn my living mainly as a painter of murals and portraits such as this one of an Italian lady with her nephew, daughter and son.

My first employment after leaving art college was a part-time post with several other artists who were given the use of a redundant ward in a hospital wing in Bethnal Green to produce paintings to adorn the wall of the various corridors and waiting rooms of the London Hospital Buildings.

After our funding was withdrawn I was hired to paint 2 large outside wall for a London play centre. This kept me happily occupied throughout the summer and was my first experience of working on such a large scale.
Once these were completed the Government's enterprise allowance scheme enabled me to set up in business with a friend doing murals and paint effects.

I now have 15 years experience working professionally with paint effects, murals, portraits and easel paintings.

I am quite happy to work in whatever style that suits my clients requirements. I was recently commissioned to do two portraits measuring 4'x3' in a style and finish to suggest they were painted in the Victorian era.

I can also do copies of other styles of painting e.g. impressionist.

oil painting

My approach is that I can adjust the way I work according to the client's requirements. As well as this I work in my own style to produce my own canvasses often of landscapes inspired by places that I have visited like in France and Sardinia.

My prices vary according to the complexity of the project and time required to carry it out. My portfolio reflects the variety in the projects that I undertake. As a guide the Victorian portriats, measuring 50"x 36" cost £2,500 each. The Italian seascape mural, measuring 130"x92" cost £1200. A portrait in oils can cost from £750, for a head and shoulders to £3500 for a family portrait, depending on size and content.
